Following one of the most gripping tournaments in recent times, BlackStar sponsored Robert Rock held his nerve and finished in the number one spot yesterday in Abu Dhabi leaving the legend that is Tiger Woods joint third and the US Open Champion, Rory McIlroy, in second place.

Leading with Tiger overnight Robert, who, at the beginning of this competition, was ranked 117th in the world, birdied three of his first six holes to set up a one-shot victory on 13 under.  However, Robert wobbled on the 18th, which forced him to take a drop when his drive landed in a pile of rocks near the water but he skillfully recovered and reached the green in four and then two-putting for the win.

In demand after the winning shot, Capital FM reported an interview where an emotional Robert paid tribute to Tiger and wonder at what he had just achieved:  “I really can’t believe I’ve done that today, it’s such an amazing feeling.  I was just very happy to be playing with Tiger Woods today; that’s a special honour in itself.  I started playing really good and really surprised myself.  Early on I was very, very nervous but hit some good shots and started to think why not!  It’s been a steady progression from when I finished work in the golf shops and I’ve worked hard at my game but I didn’t think this would happen!”
